News from the Jesuits in Timor-Leste, June 2016

Andy Nguyen SJ onsite in Kasait

In this issue of our newsletter, we offer a reflection by Scholastic Andy Nguyen SJ on his 13 months with us.  Andy was missioned by the Australian Jesuit Province to do the second year of the Regency stage of his formation in Timor-Leste.  He returned to Australia on 14 May and will begin his theology studies in Boston in September.

We are also pleased to report that construction of the building for the clinic in Kasait has been completed.  Check out the photos of the new Centro de Saúde Daniel Ornelas on page 4.

A Letter from Timor-Leste, December 2015

Chapel of Colégio Mateus Ricci, MacauDear friends in the Lord,

On behalf of all the Jesuits in East Timor, I’d like to extend our best wishes of every goodness to all our friends, benefactors and partners.

Another Christmas is approaching, another year coming to its end. It’s an opportunity to stop and review with gratitude our journey, something that you in different ways have been part of. There is no better Christmas gift we can offer you than to reaffirm how you have been a real gift of the good God to us and to all we are serving here in East Timor.  You will find some brief updates on our various projects in the attached December newsletter.

In the spirit of this Jubilee Year of Mercy that the Holy Father launched on December 8, we wish you all a Merry and Blessed Christmas.

En todo amar y servir,

Fr Joaquim Sarmento SJ
Delegate for the Major Superior
Jesuit Region of East Timor

A Letter from Timor-Leste, October 2015

JSS_2015_1Dear Friends,

As many of you know, Br Noel Oliver SJ has left us to join the Jesuit mission in Cambodia. We thank him for his contributions to the mission in Timor-Leste. Our loss is the Cambodia mission’s gain.

We ask for your patience and understanding as we continue to provide you with updates on Jesuit activities in Timor-Leste.

This issue focuses on Jesuit Social Service, a fledging ministry that has identified many projects with communities in and around the areas where the Jesuits are present.

We hope you enjoy the read.

God bless,

Fr Joaquim Sarmento SJ
Delegate to the Regional Superior
