In our first newsletter of 2017, we look back on the year that was for our education apostolate. We are filled with gratitude for the developments that have taken place, particularly the opening of Instituto São João de Brito, and continuing improvements in the campus and programs of Colégio de Sto Inácio de Loiola and Escola Secundaria Católica Nossa Senhora de Fátima Railaco.
In this September-October issue of our newsletter, we share something of the life of Fr João Felgueiras SJ, a Portuguese Jesuit missionary who arrived in what was then called Portuguese Timor in 1971.
Forty-five years later, Fr Felgueiras remains as dedicated to the people of his adopted country as when he refused to leave Timor during the conflict in the 1970s. Timor-Leste President Taur Matan Ruak awarded Fr Felgueiras a medal of merit on June 10, a day after the priest’s 95th birthday, in recognition of his contribution to the building of the nation.
In this issue, we share with you the stories of several of our teachers in Colégio Santo Inácio de Loiolá (CSIL). A school is only as good as its teachers, and we are indeed fortunate to have teachers with a passion for teaching and learning. They want to be teachers, despite the low salaries, and we support them in their dream by providing them with on-going formation, and encouraging them to pursue further studies and training.
We hope you enjoy reading their stories.
Wishing you a Happy Feast of St Ignatius.
